Comparison of absorption rates of glucose and maltose in man in vivo.
نویسنده
چکیده
1. Using a double-lumen tube perfusion technique in vivo, the absorption rates of glucose from a glucose (200 mm011-~) and from a maltose (100 mmol 1-I) solution were measured in the proximal jejunum of six Zambian African adults. 2. In all of the subjects the rate of glucose absorption from the maltose solution was greater than that from the glucose solution. The difference between the mean rates was approximately 15% and is significant (P<O.Ol).

Separation Efficiency of Glucose and Maltose from Industrial Effluent by Granular Activated Carbon
This paper describes the performance of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) to adsorb and separate glucose and maltose solutes from the industrial effluents by adsorption process. In this study, the capability of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) to adsorb glucose and maltose were experimentally examined. Commercial GAC (mesh 12-20), supplied by Sigma Aldrich company in...
متن کاملAnti-hyperglycemic Activity of Four Plants Extracts Effective against Alpha Glucosidase in Normal and Diabetic Rats
Background & Aims: Postprandial hyperglycemia results in the development of chronic complications. Therefore, its control is critical in the treatment of diabetes. One of the main therapeutic approaches for reducing postprandial hyperglycemia is to reduce the absorption of carbohydrates by enzyme inhibitors such as Acarbose which have already been clinically used as a medicine for diabetic pati...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Different Brewerâs Yeast Strains Used for Non-alcoholic Beverage Fermentation in Media Containing Different Fermentable Sugars
Fermentation characteristics of four strains of brewer's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain 70424, S.rouxii strain 2535, S. rouxii strain 2531 and Saccharomyces ludwigii strain 3447) in Yeast Moldbrothcontaining four different fermentable sugars (glucose, fructose, maltose, or sucrose) were studied. Theaim was to consider the suitability of different strain/sugar treatment...
متن کاملStructural and functional analysis of glucose absorption mechanisms in the rat small intestine in vivo.
The absorption of glucose (free, and released from membrane hydrolysis of maltose) and water in the isolated loop of the rat small intestine was studied in chronic experiments. Even at maximum glucose (75 mmol/l) or maltose (37.5 mmol/l) concentrations the rate of glucose transfer by solvent drag and by diffusion did not exceed 13% and 25%, respectively, of the total rate of glucose absorption....
متن کاملKinetics and mechanisms of glucose absorption in the rat small intestine under physiological conditions
Previous studies have shown two components of glucose absorption in the small intestine: a secondary active transport through SGLT1, and unsaturated component, recently attributed mainly to the facilitated diffusion through GLUT2, but the relationship between these two components under physiological conditions remains controversial. In chronic experiments on nonanesthetized rats we investigated...
